Who Killed Playboy?
The struggle for human rights is an important achievement of the 21st century, one that has brought many positive changes to the status of various marginalized groups, especially in Western society. Numerous projects have been initiated and laws enacted to provide them with a better quality of life. For an individual to be considered part of a marginalized group, they must meet certain criteria. In my view, the three most significant criteria are gender, race, and sexuality. In other words, anyone except a straight white man can hypothetically fall into this category.
I am not sure how this functions in other fields, but in the art world there has been a noticeable rise in exhibitions where belonging to one of these marginalized groups is an important parameter for selecting artists. I get the impression that the straight white man has now become marginalized, and that human-rights advocates are fighting discrimination by applying discrimination.
This work addresses that phenomenon. As the title suggests, the bunny is inspired by the Playboy magazine logo, a symbol closely associated with the category of straight white men.
